Kew Bridge Steam Museum
The large building is the engine house for the 100" Cornish beam engine with the 90" house directly behind it and in communication with it. The tall structure is the standpipe tower (not a chimney). The engines pumped over a loop of pipe producing a head of about 180'. The loop also had an ascending open atmospheric limb to provide room for surge. This standpipe protected the engines against catastrophic loss of load if a main burst downstream of the pumping station.
