Missing Viaduct at Belah
Missing Viaduct at Belah
The deep, steep valley of the River Belah was crossed here by a viaduct carrying the LNER Railway. Only the foundations, seen in the valley below, and the end buttresses - one seen opposite - remain. The viaduct was 317m long and 60m high, made of wrought and cast iron, in 16 spans. Its life is well documented and available on the internet.
