Cable Marker
We are familiar with water and gas valve signs, but this is a rare survivor. It indicates the position of an underground high voltage cable owned by the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Electric Power Company. This was a private company, part of the Balfour Beatty group, and was absorbed into the East Midlands Electricity Board on nationalisation in 1948. The company's principal generating station was at Spondon near Derby.
