Warts and all
This copy of the most famous painting of Huntingdon's best-known son is displayed in the Cromwell Collection in Huntingdon Library. Oliver Cromwell was born in Huntingdon in 1599 and represented it in the parliaments of 1628-9 before going on to become Lord Protector of the Commonwealth and supreme ruler of Britain. The original portrait was made by Samuel Cooper in around 1650 and at the sitter's behest makes no concessions to vanity.
