Permissive path north of Roman Landing
Permissive path north of Roman Landing
This path was created in 2002 by Chichester Harbour Conservancy as a replacement for the public footpath (running parallel within the vegetation at right) which had been rendered impassable by sea erosion.
Whilst this is a noble effort, I take issue with the way it has been done. Scrub has been deliberately planted and fostered on both sides of this new path. On the seaward side it forms an impenetrable barrier blocking all view of the sea, and that is exactly what one does not want from a coastal path. On the landward side it has not yet grown up but, if it does, the path will be through a vegetated tunnel offering no views at all. Such paths are not good for recreational purposes. It would surely not be too difficult to clear some of this vegetation at intervals to afford views of the sea.
