TF8546 : Three hours before low tide
near to Burnham Overy Staithe, Norfolk, Great Britain

Three hours before low tide
This sand bank in the Burnham River estuary has grown immensely over the past thirty years but shifts around with the effects of winter storms. This year the main flow of the river is going out directly north, as opposed to being turned eastward by longshore drift as has been the case recently. When the tide is completely down, this area is just an immense expanse of sand. Three hours beforehand, it is possible to cross to this "island" but not to ford the Burnham River to Scolt Head Island. For that you need to wait another hour - and be careful! Gun Hill is visible on the skyline.
