Sandend Bay
Sandend Bay
Sandend lying to the west of Sandend Bay is one of the smallest of the many old fishing villages scattered along the north-facing coasts of Moray and Aberdeenshire.
Sandend beach is popular with families and for surfers, especially on a day like this. At its east end, on the horizon, lies Glenglassaugh Distillery which, once again, is producing its distinctive single malt whisky after being mothballed in 1986.
In the dark days of the second world war the beach was regarded as being suitable for a landing ground for the Germans and was fortified with a double row of tank traps and a gun emplacement at the east end.
