Parry People Mover 139 002 leaving Stourbridge Town Railway Station
This is one of the two Parry People Mover rail vehicles (class PPM 60) being operated by the train operating company, London Midland, on the short branch line between Stourbridge Town and Stourbridge Junction railway stations. These vehicles are very innovative, being much more lightweight than traditional rail vehicles, and also are equipped with a flywheel, which reduces energy consumption. It is hoped that the energy efficiency of the vehicles plus the reduced wear on the track, will considerably reduce running costs.
This is the first national railway line to run these vehicles in regular service. If they achieve their objectives, similar vehicles could well appear on other lines and could make the difference between a line continuing and closing. These vehicles were both designed and built in the U.K. They replaced vehicles of this type: SO9084 : London Midland 153371 entering Stourbridge Town Station
