Muncaster Mill - internal gearing
Muncaster Mill - internal gearing
This is the left-side gearing in Muncaster Mill.
This set of cogs drives the left pair of stones (of 3 pairs in the mill).
The large iron wheel at the back right is the pit wheel which is directly connected with the water wheel. While the main drive cogs are iron, the teeth on the cogs which trake the power from those wheels are wooden (from fruit trees) so if there is a problem its easier to replace some wooden cog teeth than an entire iron cog.
