The coracle in the church
To quote the information booklet available in the old church at Manordeifi:
An old coracle traditionally lies in the porch, mute testimony to the time when the church was isolated by the floods that often flowed through the building. The Teifi then ran alongside the church but its course has changed during the years and, although the coracle was used during living memory, the danger of flooding was thought no longer to exist. However in the autumn of 1987 the church was flooded again, caused, it is thought, by the failure to maintain the dredged channel below Llechryd Bridge.
The present coracle is on loan to the church from Mr Bernard Thomas of Llechryd. He used this particular craft on his epic journey across the English Channel.
