St Thomas the Apostle, Clapton Common
This was Stamford Hill Chapel, built about 1777 when large houses were built around here. It was renamed in 1827, rebuilt in 1832, became a parish in 1856 as population increased, remodelled in 1873. Most of it was destroyed by a bomb in 1940 but the tower remained; it was rebuilt in 1958. See web page LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) of David G Brown.
