Flute Casts
These knobbly shapes are indicative of turbidites, which are rocks formed by underwater slumps and landslides. The turbulent current carves hollows in the underlying rocks, and the hollows are then filled with sediment. This face is the underside of the flow; the rocks in this quarry have been tilted beyond the vertical. These turbidites are of Silurian age.
