Lowest of the low: Burn estuary exposed
At the point of low tide, there is only a small flow coming out of the main River Burn outlet but wide expanses of sand, much of it in this area being very soft, as here. Notices warn that the estuary can be dangerous at any time and certainly this is a place where an accurate knowledge of the current tide tables is a must. On the distant horizon is the ridge of rising ground between Burnham Overy Staithe and Burnham Thorpe.
