St Mary's church of Saxlingham Thorpe - no trace is left of the hamlet today - was 'ruinated' in the late 18th century and permission was given to sell unwanted furnishings. The proceeds from the sale including lead, brass and glass was used to repair St Mary's church in neighbouring Saxlingham Nethergate. A public footpath - it forms a section of Boudica's Way long distance path - leads past the ruined church, part of the tower and walls of which are still standing, surrounded by tall trees.
