Following the graduation ceremony in Hull City Hall, the new graduates of the University of Hull gather on the steps below Queen Victoria's statue and throw their mortar boards in the air. This is a tradition that is only observed at 3 universities in the world (so we were told) - Hull, Harvard and Yale.
