Amazing for me to see this - especially as I remember the corn field that was here before. I went to school at Kingsway Primary and then Winstanley Community College. At the time you could see from those schools right across the fields to the Ross Service Station on the M1.
I lived on Woodland Drive back then and as kids we'd cut through Foxholes Spinney (behind Dunstall Avenue/Valley Drive) to walk down through the fields to the bottom of Westover Road - then across to the schools where there used to be Foxholes brook. We'd also walk up the bridle path towards the M1, which I guess is where the Aldi store is situated now.
Also remember the stubble burning on the field where Thorpe Astley is now - it always used to go out of control, so the Fire Brigade was called.
John.
