Modern steam engine
Modern steam engine
This is in the Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI) in Manchester. It was built in 1926 by W & J Galloway of Manchester and installed at Elm Street Mill, Burnley - SD8433 : Elm Street Mill, Burnley. It is a cross compound extraction engine with oil hydraulic valve gear and a uniflow low-pressure cylinder (OK enough technical stuff -ed!).
Look out for it in the Textile Mill Engine gallery.
