Church at Abbey St. Bathans
Church at Abbey St. Bathans
Abbey St. Bathans was chosen in about 1200, to be the site of a small Cistercian priory, chosen as it was believed to have been previously the site of a tiny chapel established by St Bathan, a follower of St Columba, in the late 500s. It was largely destroyed by English troops in 1543 but subsequently repaired to become the parish church of Abbey St Bathans and Strafuntin.
