NT6557 : Goods van and fank

taken 12 years ago, 4 km from Longformacus, Scottish Borders, Great Britain

Goods van and fank.
Goods van and fank.
In the 1960s it was not just the permanent way that got hammered. BR stopped a lot of freight carriage and a lot of goods cars were put on the market. Surplus railway stock got into almost every farm, if not sleepers then it was redundant rolling stock. Some even got turned into shelter for walkers on the Pennine Way, just south of here. Now few are left rotting away, like this one where cultivated land gives way to moorland. Note the mole infestation.
