Little St Mary's Vicarage
In 2008 the diocese built this new vicarage on part of the Archdeaconry Glebe in Summerfield, to replace the former clergy house in Newnham Terrace acquired by Darwin College. To quote from a Diocesan Houses Committee report by Richard Morgan, during the three years to 2009 "nearly 40 clergy homes have exchanged hands, been bought or sold, or had new homes built on adjoining land or gardens. Ely Diocese is considered, by other dioceses, as a leader in looking after its housed clergy."
Here the skills of the architect and garden designer have created a peaceful haven despite proximity to the crowded city centre and congested ring road.
