Coast path temporarily closed near Zennor Head
During a freak torrential rain storm over the West Penwith area on the night of 24/25 April 2009, extensive damage was caused to the South West Coast Path and other footpaths in the Zennor area. Along the Coast Path seven footbridges were damaged or washed away, and the streams they crossed were widened by the force of flood water. The section on the right (between Zennor Head and Carnelloe) is still shut, pending repairs to make the path safe for walkers. As the sign next to the stile explains, the coast path has temporarily re-routed inland (partly along the narrow and winding B3306 road).

The damaged bridge in this closed section must be the one pictured in this photograph: SW4438 : Pendour Cove from Trewey Cliff.

Three people were killed during the torrential rain storm when the car they were travelling in was washed from a track road to the hamlet of Poniou, west of Zennor.
