Stubbs Wood, New Forest
Stubbs Wood, New Forest
A typical early spring scene in Stubbs Wood, an area of open woodland with many tall old beech and oak with the usual understorey of holly. There is little natural regeneration of the deciduous trees as new growth is eaten by ponies and deer. The thin soils on the hill slope do not provide good support for trees of this size.
