Path through mixed woods, Roe Inclosure, New Forest
On the left, oak; on the right, firs. The oak is mature, much of it originally planted in 1811 - the tree in the foreground has lost one of its limbs. The ground is very wet and there are many drainage ditches in this inclosure. The (wet) path leads south from the earthworks at Castle Piece - the nearest Iron Age encampment is 5km due south of Castle Piece.
