When this picture was taken the then landlord was a veteran of D-Day. He ferried troops to Gold beach from the ships lying off the beaches. Shortly afterwards he retired & the pub became a haunt for the horsy-yuppie set who knew nothing about beer but plenty about horse-shit (sorry, manure) - so our group moved on.
