Old trees in Hincheslea Wood, New Forest
Hincheslea Wood is on raised ground to the north of Hincheslea Bog, and is typical "ancient and ornamental" woodland. The wood is open and grazed by commoners' stock (cattle and ponies). The oak pollard in the foreground is in its dotage, and its swollen bole has subsumed a few holly shrubs - it is most likely over 300 years old. In the background on the left is a twisted beech pollard.
