Oak in its dotage, Blackhamsley, New Forest
The oak on the right of this photo is in the final decades of its life, slowly losing its limbs - it will maybe topple over like its nearby brother: SU2800 : Fallen tree in New Forest. In the shadows in the centre of the photo a pony is feeding on holly; at this time of year there is little else to eat and holly (despite its prickles) has a good nutritional content. There are a lot of mature holly trees in this holm between Hincheslea Bog and Blackhamsley House.
