Walker Art Gallery, William Brown Street, Liverpool
The Walker Art Gallery, opened in 1877, was designed by architects Sherlock and Vale and named after its principal benefactor, Alderman Andrew Barclay Walker, Lord Mayor of Liverpool. The classical portico includes friezes of scenes from Liverpool's history and above a personification of Liverpool holding a trident and a ship's propeller. The Steble Fountain is in the foreground.
