Bredisholm, remains of ford on North Calder
Bredisholm, remains of ford on North Calder
The stones lying on the river bed are the remains of a stepping stones type ford which was laid across the shallow river here in the 19th. century. There was also a wooden pedestrian bridge here used by the coal miners travelling to and from work in the pits on each side of the river in these parts. Whether the ford preceded the bridge or vice versa is not clear.
