New growth for spring in Deadman's Plack Copse, Harewood Forest
Looking southwest from the Deadman's Plack monument, the spring sunshine passes through the leafless canopy and illuminates the growing greenery on the woodland floor. Scenes like this are rare in the equally old New Forest as commoners' stock are free to wander in the ancient woodland (pasture woodland) and graze on new growth. These woods, part of Harewood Forest, are managed as a working forest and the only "large" mammals in the woods are humans!
