St Sampson's Church, Cricklade
The church is named not for the famous Old Testament strongman but for an obscure 6th century fellow from the Celtic fringes who eventually found his way to France where he became a bishop. Bits of him apparently fetched up here about 400 years later only to be taken away again at the time of the Reformation in the 16th century. That somewhat tenuous link was sufficient to dedicate this fine church to him.
