Cheshire County Council mile marker near Belgrave Bridge
This cast iron Cheshire County Council mile marker is dated 1898 and indicates that it is 3 miles to Chester and 8 1/2 to Wrexham. Cheshire County Council was formed in 1888 and they seem to have instigated a complete removal of all old stone mileposts in exchange for cast iron ones. This one was cast by the WHSmith iron company of Whitchurch. It is hollow and open at the back.
UPDATE April 2016:
In 2015 a huge redevelopment of the A483/B5445/A55 junctions was carried out and, unfortunately, this mile marker has now disappeared.
