TM0878 : Round tower of St Mary's Church
near to Wortham, Suffolk, Great Britain

Round tower of St Mary's Church
Wortham boasts the largest round tower in England, 29ft in diameter and some 62ft high in its present ruined state following the collapse of the top stage in 1780. Pevsner considers it to be Norman, but Munro Cautley suggests it is Saxon. Through the gap in the collapsed rim can be seen the "engaging little weatherboarded bell-turret with an ogee top".
