Farmer's Bridge Locks
Farmer's Bridge Locks
Looking down from Snow Hill station to the BCN as it descends Farmer's Bridge locks heading towards Aston Junction. This picture was taken at a time when Snow Hill station was closed and the land used for car parking. The lock drops the canal under Constitution Hill and it can be seen re-appearing in the distance in near the top right of the picture. The canal has been extensively opened up and smarted up (above the waterline at least!!) since this picture was taken and is enjoying a new popularity. Unfortunately however it has also meant the canal has lost its almost secretive, world of its own character that used to be so endearing. As can be seen from the picture, although it was a bit scruffy, it was almost completely isolated from the hustle and bustle of the city streets.
