Startops Reservoir, Tring
Startops Reservoir, Tring
This view is across Startops (pronounced Starrups) Reservoir looking North West. Low water-level.

Startops is one of four reservoirs in the vicinity that were built in the early 19th Century to maintain water levels in the Grand Union Canal as it crosses its summit in the Chiltern Hills; the others are Marsworth - which adjoins - Tringford and Wilstone, the latter being by far the largest. The Tring Reservoirs are a favourite haunt of bird-watchers and fishermen, and are now designated Sites of Special Scientific Interest on account of their wealth of wildlife.
