Clodiagh River and mill stream at Portlaw
In 1825 a cotton mill was opened in Portlaw, at the far end of the buildings on the right of the photo. It brought much needed employment to the area. The mill stream on the right of the photo. The Clodiagh River is coming down from the hills, and the mill stream leaves it about a kilometre upstream from here. A local resident told me that there used to be houses on the spit of land between the river and mill stream.
