'Salmon' is one of about six industrial steam locomotives that the SCR heritage railway own or share. It was built in 1942 by Andrew Barclay of Kilmarnock and entered service the same year in Stanton Ironworks' Harlaxton Ironstone Quarries. It subsequently worked in Woolsthorpe in Leicestershire before being taken over by the North York Moors heritage railway in 1980. It came to the SCR in 2000 via Cottesmore in Rutland and underwent a seven-year restoration programme before being certified operational in December 2007. It is named for a Royal Navy submarine which was lost with all hands on active service in July 1940. In this image the engine is about to take a train north to Hayes Knoll.
