Imperial War Museum at Duxford
Duxford Aerodrome, 15km South of Cambridge, is a branch of the Imperial War Museum. It houses many large exhibits, including both civil and military aircraft, and military vehicles, and hosts a number of very popular air shows each year.
This nacelle belongs to one of the Museum's static exhibits. The "Britannia" was a turboprop airliner produced by the Bristol Aeroplane Company in the early 1950s, but it had been superseded by jet aircraft by the time it entered service and only 85 were built. Nevertheless, the Britannia proved popular with passengers, earning itself the title of "The Whispering Giant" for its quiet and smooth flying.
