Deeply inscribed on both sides the hand outline points the "Road to Kirbymoorside"
On the back (East facing) side the named towns are "Pickrin or Malton" (Pickering and Malton). Both these routes are roughly South of this point so there must have been a fork in the road here, indeed there still is as a rough stone track can be followed to the West which leads to Gillamoor and Kirkbymoorside, while the main road carries on through Hutton-le-Hole and thence towards Malton some 20 miles away.
