Village of Rosemarkie
Village of Rosemarkie
This is a place with a long history. Saint Moluag, an early missionary to the Picts had a cell here in the 6th century and about 716 Saint Boniface established a monastery on the site. The name does not refer to the flower rose but the Ros is from the headland of Chanonry Ness and in the Gaelic it originally was Rosmarcanaidh, the 'Horse Burn at the Point'.In the defile behind the village is the 'Fairy Glen' where there are splendid walks and waterfalls amidst the trees.
