Beef cattle, Levin Down
Levin Down, behind the hedge, is a nature reserve run by Sussex Wildlife Trust. It is a mixture of chalk downland and scrub, and is important for its yew and juniper scrub. There is also a small area of chalk heathland.
The name apparently originates from the poor quality of that land, being a corruption of 'Leaving'or 'Leave alone'because it was not worth ploughing.
