St John’s Church, Dartrey, seen from the Temple on Black Island
This is the view looking across Inner Lough from 30 foot up on the roof of the temple erected on Black Island in the 1770s by Thomas Dawson, owner of the beautiful Dartrey estate. The estate, now owned by Coillte, is given over entirely to forestry. The temple, which contains a statue commemorating his first wife Lady Anne Fermor, is currently being restored.
