SD4379 : Bridge over River Winster

taken 9 years ago, near to Meathop, Cumbria, Great Britain

Bridge over River Winster
Bridge over River Winster
This road bridge appears to have a modern deck on old piers.
The river flows through an artificial channel here SD4279 : Meathop Marsh Dyke to a tidal sluice SD4379 : Culvert. The channel was dug when the railway was built in c.1855, to drain the marshes and claim the land behind the railway embankment.
Previously, the Winster joined the Kent close to Holme Island (SD4278).
