SK3314 : Willesley Wood

taken 8 years ago, near to Oakthorpe, Leicestershire, Great Britain

Willesley Wood
Willesley Wood
Looking north-west along a path at the western edge of the wood. This wood has been extended to some 140 acres as a result of National Forest planting. Open cast coal mining finished here in 1953, followed by 40 years of farming on the very poor shale soils. Conversion to open-access woodland seems a good move.
