St. Nicholas' Church, Deptford Green, SE8 - memorial to Peter Pett, 1652
Peter Pett was a shipbuilder at the Woolwich yard, where he worked out the specification for the frigate class of warship. Several other members of his family worked in the same trade. An uncle named William Pett, who died in 1587, obtained some of his timber form woodlands that he leased near Chislehurst and this land became known - and is still known today - as Pett's Wood. {Source: Leaflet "St Nicholas' Church, Deptford Green".}
