taken 8 years ago, near to Walmer, Kent, Great Britain

Shingle ridge on Walmer Beach
Shingle ridge on Walmer Beach
Shingle is a very loose and shifting substrate, and not many plants can colonise it. There is clearly a significant colonisation of the landward side of this shingle ridge, with very little on the seaward side.
