SK3899 : Elsecar Reservoir

Elsecar Reservoir
Elsecar Reservoir
The dam seen from the reservoir side. The courses of the stonework suggest that the dam has been subject to subsidence due to mining, and has been built up at some stage to maintain the level of water in the reservoir. The current outflow is clearly a much later addition, and has probably been cut to deliberately lower the water level to reduce stresses on the dam.
