NU0822 : Sheepfold at Blawearie
taken 15 years ago, near to Old Bewick, Northumberland, England
Sheepfold at Blawearie
This is natural enclosure and has access has been restricted by building a wall at the entrance. This may have been used as a sheepfold or for herding other animals.
Additional information supplied by John Evans
The "sheepfold" at Blawearie was, in fact, a garden established by the family who lived there in the 1800s. I think their name was Davidson but I may be wrong. If you examine the "undergrowth" you can (or could about 15 years ago) find traces of garden plants established years ago.
Many thanks for the Blawearie pictures. They convey something of the special
atmosphere this place has, surrounded. as it is, by a number of very ancient
remains.
