near to Castletown, Carran and Fahee, Clare, Ireland

Castletown River and the Carran turlough
This is the largest enclosed depression on the Burren, and Ireland's highest turlough (110m OD). Springs on its north side drain south to a mud-choked sinkhole at its southern end. After heavy rain the whole depression floods to a depth of several metres, draining only slowly.
