China Hall pub, 141 Lower Road, Rotherhithe, London, SE16
Situated at the junction with Tiger Bay (where cars are parked that in 1868 was called Providence Row) that was once a small public cul de sac. In 1719 it was the "Cock & Pye Ale House" 1775 "Marsh Gate" 1777 "Green Man" owned by a Jonathan Oldfield, who at one time sold china. He built a theatre near the pub but it burnt down within a year. In 1787 he built another theatre naming it the "China Hall" and it's from that that the pub gets its name. To its left used to stand a grand old house, demolished in the 1970s, that housed the Labour Party Committee rooms and some nurses quarters.
