Courthope House, Lower Road, Rotherhithe, London, SE16
Just north of Hothfield Place. Named after Thomas Courthope a Rotherhithe shipbuilder who, in 1816, started the first regular river steam service between London and Margate. It was on one such vessel that J M W Turner saw HMS Temeraire awaiting destruction at a dock in Rotherhithe and later painted the world famous "Fighting Temeraire" picture.
